Out of all the teams in the State Volleyball Tournament, Riverside showed the most fortitude and perseverance by winning the 1A championship in 5 grueling sets over Southeast on Saturday in Casper. Riverside lost the first 2 sets 25-23 and 25-17, then rallied to win the next 2 sets 25-22 and 25-16. In the 5th and deciding set, the Rebels were down 14-10 so Southeast was one point away from winning the match. Riverside then proceeded to win the next 6 points to take the set 16-14 and also take home a championship trophy in volleyball for the very first time.

Riverside played in 2A last season and returned a couple of two-time all-state players in Caroline Schlattmann and Vaidyn Vanderploeg. The Rebels made last year's state tournament and finished this season with a record of 32-5.

Southeast had a returning all-state player too in Brenna Herring and was ranked #1 for a good portion of the 2022 season. The Cyclones posted 27 wins this year with 6 losses and this group was the 1A State Champions in basketball in 2021.
