Select Wyoming Hoopsters Are Heading To A Showcase Event

Nine high school basketball players from around Wyoming will have an opportunity to showcase their skills this weekend in Colorado.

The Centennial State Grandstand will be June 28-30, 2019, in Aurora, Colorado. This is a three-day evaluation event that invites high school players from Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and select players from a few other states. They will go through drills to display their skills and participate in live play in front of college coaches.

The nine from the Cowboy State include five players in the Class of 2020 and four in the Class of 2021. They are Kemmerer teammates Cade Bowen (2020) and Colter Brunski (2020), Sheridan’s Samuel LeCholat (2021),  Mountain View teammates Hunter Meeks (2021) and Braeden Walk (2020), Laramie’s Christian Mickelson (2021), Dalton Peterson (2021) from Encampment, Cooper Quig (2020) of Natrona County, and Newcastle’s Dylon Tidyman (2020).

This is the first time this type of event is being held. It’s organized by the Colorado High School Activities Association, New Mexico Activities Association, and Wyoming High School Activities Association, and those state’s coaches associations. Players must be nominated by a school’s head coach, be a legitimate college prospect, and then they are selected by a governing committee, who extends an invite. The event must also be held at an education-based, non-Division 1 campus. The Centennial State Grandstand will take place at Cherokee Trail High School and neighboring Fox Ridge Middle School.

This new NCAA Division 1 Scholastic Recruiting Event came from the Rice Commission Report on College Basketball. As a result of that report, several changes were made to the D-1 recruiting calendar. Some of the “live” viewing periods from April and July were moved to June, which is a time reserved for high school events.

A total of 170 players will be participating at this weekend’s Centennial State Grandstand.
