Jackson edged out defending champion Kelly Walsh by three points in the voting for the top spot in the 4A girls’ poll. The Broncs earned eight first-place votes compared to the Trojans’ seven first-place votes. One fifth-place vote proved to be the difference. Campbell County’s 2-0 start last weekend impressed enough voters that the Camels jumped into the rankings at No. 3. Thunder Basin held in the fourth spot. Cheyenne East moved into fifth after a 2-0 start to their season. Seven more 4A teams earned at least one vote in the poll.
Cody was a unanimous pick for the top spot in 3A girls’ soccer. The Fillies received all 16 first-place votes. The rest of the top five remained the same. Worland was second, followed by Powell, Douglas, and Buffalo.
In 3A boys, Worland earned 11 of the 12 first-place votes. The Warriors lost their first game of the season but turned around the next day and earned a hard-fought win over second-ranked Cody. The Broncs maintained their spot in second in the new poll. Powell, Torrington, and Douglas held their spots in the voting.
Finally, in 4A boys, Cheyenne Central kept the No. 1 ranking. The Indians garnered nine of the 15 first-place votes. Kelly Walsh, who debuts this week at a tournament in Alabama, remained second. Thunder Basin moved up to third, which pushed Jackson down to fourth. Sheridan kept the fifth position.
