Watch Smedley Repeats, Gulley Breaks Through with No. 2 Singles Titles at Wyoming State Tennis
Cheyenne Central junior Cailyn Smedley and Thunder Basin senior Parkar Gulley won the No. 2 singles state titles last weekend at the 2025 Wyoming High School Tennis State Championships in Gillette. Smedley completed an undefeated season for her second straight No. 2 singles crown and third title of her career. Gulley captured the first tennis championship of his prep career.

WyoPreps spoke to Smedley and Gulley after they won their championship matches last Saturday in Gillette. Cailyn called it pretty exciting to win another one, said her mindset and defensive play were keys, but she did switch up her approach in the title match. Gulley felt that all his hard work had finally paid off, said his defensive approach was a key, his serve helped him settle in early, and more.
How the Champions Got to the Top
Smedley lost only three games on her way to the title. She opened the state tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily Reeded from Thunder Basin. Cailyn followed with another straight sets win, 6-0 and 6-0, over Powell's Bailee Allred in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Smedley topped Annabel Millham of Jackson by a score of 6-0 and 6-2. In the championship, she prevailed 6-1 and 6-0 over Hailey Dansie from Cody.
Gulley won all four of his matches in straight sets. He started with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Niels Wiederholt from Laramie. He defeated Beau Beachler of Cody 6-0 and 6-1. The semifinals brought a test from Ryan Barrus of Powell, but Gulley passed handily, 6-2 and 6-2. In the championship, Parkar took down Miles Romer from Kelly Walsh by scores of 6-4 and 7-5.
