Thunder Basin Boys Earn 2nd Place Finish at 4A State Tournament
In four years of existence, the Thunder Basin boys basketball team has qualified for the 4A state tournament twice and the Bolts surged to a 2nd place finish in 2021. The program has come a long way from its first year in 2018 and this year's squad had three players earn all-state distinction. Deegan Williams was a scoring machine as he averaged 17 points a game. McKale Holte could also score as he threw in 15 a game with Andre Felton averaging 8 points per contest.
In the first round of the state tournament in Casper, the Bolts took on Green River and won that game 46-24. Felton went 5-7 from the field and finished with 13 points. McKale Holt hit 4, 3 pointers and finished with a dozen. The Bolts took 31, 3 pointers and made 8.
In the 4A semi-finals, Thunder Basin drew Star Valley and the Bolts turned in another sharp defensive performance with a 48-25 win. Thunder Basin outscored Star Valley 12-0 in the 2nd quarter got 18 points from Holte who ran the 3 bell, 5 times. Felton chipped in 10 as the Bolts went 8-24 from beyond the arc.
In the 4A championship game, Thunder Basin ran into Cheyenne Central and the Tribe was too much on that day and came away with a 55-40 win. Felton had 18 and Deegan Williams had 17 but the Bolts were outrebounded 29-13.
Thunder Basin went 15-9 for the year and Felton was a senior. Holte and Williams were juniors so this group should be tough in 2021-22. Check out of video of the Bolts in the state tournament. Enjoy!
