The 4A East Conference basketball season began over the weekend and one of the marquee match-ups for the boys had #1 Laramie visiting Gillette to take on Thunder Basin. At one point, Thunder Basin trailed by 6 and then had a 27-11 surge in the 2nd quarter to lead by 10. The Bolts cruised in from there en route to a 66-53 victory.

The Bolts have a gifted player in sophomore Gibby Williams who is averaging nearly 18 points a game. He was a 4A All-State pick a year ago and threw in 18 points in that Laramie game. Trypp Burtsfield had 16 and Brayden New had 11. Those 2 guys combined, average 19 points per game. TB finished the weekend with an 85-44 win over Cheyenne South so the Bolts are 7-3

Laramie has 6-9 Neil Summers who is averaging nearly 16 a game and he had 10 vs. Thunder Basin. Summers and Jaden Smith are returning All-State players and Smith has been throwing in 11 per game. Plus, the Plainsmen have a solid athlete in Max Alexander who had 17 vs. the Bolts but  Laramie dropped 9-3 on the season.

The Thunder Basin girls posted a big win over Laramie on Friday 48-31 and coupled with a win over Cheyenne South on Saturday, the Bolts are 6-4 on the year. Thunder Basin led 26-9 at the halftime intermission and has been led in scoring this year by junior Addy Rouse. She has been getting some help from Allie Rodgers and Ashtyn Ketchum who are both averaging 8 points per contest. Thunder Basin posted a 58-25 win over Cheyenne South to conclude the weekend.

The Laramie girls are 8-4 and it was a tough night for the Plainsmen on Friday. Carson Milam had 8 points and she has been averaging 10 points per game. Ava Krueger had 6 vs. Thunder Basin and she is throwing 8 points per outing.
