Two new #1's grace the coaches/media boys basketball rankings, for the first week of February.

One team probably thinks it's about time, the other doesn't want to be there.

Gillette is now on top of the 4A rankings, and they will travel into hostile enemy territory this Friday, at #3 Sheridan who managed to hold their spot, despite losing at #4 Cheyenne East last week. Meanwhile, Kelly Walsh was bumped down to #2, courtesy of their overtime loss vs. #5 Rock Springs. As good as the win was for the Tigers, it was neutralized 2 days later, when they lost at unranked Natrona.

Wheatland started the season unranked, and after taking down 3 #1's so far this season, they're now the top ranked dog in 3A. That's the spot that they have said they don't want to be in, because that spot has been like thin ice the past 2 weeks, and so has just about every other #1 ranked team, except for 1A boys. The Bulldogs have to keep their guard up this week, because they are on the road against the bottom 2 teams in the conference (Newcastle and Torrington), who would love nothing more than to their season around, with a huge upset. Meanwhile, Cody climbed up to #2, after bringing now #4 Lander down to earth. Rawlins fell to #3 after their one-week stay on top. Powell holds at #5.

There was no change at all in the 2A rankings, but one team has a chance to prove themselves, this weekend. The order remains with Wyoming Indian on top, followed by Lusk, Big Piney, Greybull and Moorcroft. The #4 Buffs face a tall task this Saturday, when they go to Ethete, to challenge the Chiefs.

Just like 2A, the 1A polls did not change either, and there's not much excitement on the schedule this weekend. Burlington is the unanimous #1, followed by Guernsey-Sunrise, Upton, Little Snake River and Cokeville. One inter-class game to keep an eye on, is on Tuesday, February 11th, when 2A #2 Lusk goes to 1A #2 Guernsey-Sunrise.
