Wyoming High School Skiing Scoreboard: Jan. 6-7, 2023
The first weekend of the new year has the first full skiing weekend of the high school season.
Alpine Skiing makes its debut this weekend for the 2023 season, while Nordic Skiing will have its third competition.
Alpine Skiing
Downhill skiing began practicing on Nov. 21, 2022. They start their season this weekend with the Laramie Invite at Snowy Range Ski Area, about 30 minutes west of Laramie.
Friday is a slalom race, and Saturday is a giant slalom or GS race. Both days of the competition will start at 10 a.m. All the racing will be on Sundance run.

Taylor Smith of Jackson Travis D'Amours of Jackson swept both days of racing at the Snowy Range Ski Area.

Girls Team Scores = Jackson 134, Natrona 105, Cody 34, Pinedale 29, Kelly Walsh 23, Laramie 17.
Boys Team Scores = Jackson 136, Natrona 85, Pinedale 45, Kelly Walsh 27, Cody 26, Laramie 23.
Laramie hosts skiers from Cody, Jackson, Kelly Walsh, Natrona County, and Pinedale.
Nordic Skiing
It’s already the third meet of the season for cross-country skiers. They are on Casper Mountain for the first time this year.
Friday features a 5km freestyle race. The varsity girls start at 1 p.m. followed by the varsity boys’ race. It will have interval starts with one skier starting every 15 seconds.
Friday Results
Abigail Murphy of Jackson won the race. Her time was 16:22.4, and her margin of victory was nearly 29 seconds. Lander's Ameya Eddy was second (16:51.2), and Aurora Stiles of Jackson took third (17:03.6).
Diego Lobatos of Lander won the boys' race at a time of 14:34.2. His margin of victory was a narrow 1 second. Sam Hutchinson from Jackson placed second (14:35.2), and Fisk Johansson of Kelly Walsh placed third (14:37.5). The top 5 boys finished within 6.3 seconds of each other.
Saturday will be a 7.5km classic race. The varsity boys will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the varsity girls. This race also has interval starts.
Saturday Results
The top 3 girls were the same as Friday but in a slightly different order. Aurora Stiles of Jackson crossed the finish line first at a time of 27:46.3. She won the race by just over 17 seconds. Ameya Eddy of Lander took second again (28:03.6). Abigail Murphy from Jackson was third (28:33.4).
Fisk Johansson of Kelly Walsh won the boys' race. His time was 23:45.5. Johansson won the race by nearly 25 seconds. Peter Concannon from Jackson placed second (24:10.4). Diego Lobatos of Lander came in third (24:19.8).
No team scores were released from Casper.
The schools competing this weekend are Cody, Jackson, Kelly Walsh Lander, Laramie, Natrona County, Pinedale, and Sheridan.
All the competition takes place at the Casper Mountain Trails Center.
