After their first weekend off since the holiday break, cross country skiers are back to competition outside of Lander on Friday and Saturday.

Nordic Skiing

It’s back to the middle of the state for the second Lander Invite this weekend in the Wind River Mountain Range.

Nordic skiers will start with a 5 km classic race on Friday at noon. The boys’ varsity will be on the trails first, followed by the girls’ varsity race. On Saturday, skiers will compete in a 7.5 km freestyle or skate competition. The girls’ varsity will begin at noon, followed by the boys’ varsity at 12:30 p.m.

Both days of racing feature interval starts every 15 seconds.

The weekend of cross country skiing will be taking place at the Beaver Creek Nordic Trails outside of Lander on WY HWY 28.

Lander is hosting Cody/Sheridan, Jackson, Kelly Walsh, Laramie, Natrona County, and Pinedale for this high school cross-country skiing invitational.

Girls -- Lander 244, Jackson, 218, Natrona 178, Kelly Walsh 147, Laramie 87, Cody/Sheridan 43,  Pinedale 13

Boys -- Jackson 222, Lander 215, Laramie 155, Natrona 140, Kelly Walsh 112, Cody/Sheridan 56, Pinedale 31

Final Classic Results

Lander's Kaylynn Sandall and Kaleb Simonson both won on their home course. Sandall covered the course in 19:36 and won by 22 seconds. Simonson raced to a five-second win with a time of 16:30.

Final Freestyle Results

Kelly Walsh's Kelly Veauthier and Jackson's Mason Wheeler won the Saturday skate or freestyle competition. Veauthier won by nearly 25 seconds. Her time was 24:43.6. Wheeler finished first in 20:14.1 and won by 30 seconds.

Alpine Skiing

The downhill skiers do not have a high school skiing competition this weekend.

They return to the slopes next weekend with another event at Hogadon Basin Ski Area on Casper Mountain.
