The Wyoming Indian Lady Chiefs are 2020 Class 2A state basketball champions. The team beat the Pine Bluffs Hornets, 52-46, Saturday in Casper.

This is the Lady Chiefs' fourth title in school history. This is the second straight title for the team as they won it last year in 2019.

The game began slowly as there was not very much action in the 1 quarter. The score at the end of the first was 11-8 Lady Chiefs lead.

Going into the 2nd quarter was when both teams started scoring points. Both teams had its fair share of blows, but the quarter was mostly controlled by the Lady Chiefs. Angela Astorga and Jaden Ferris both of Wyoming Indian each had 10 points at the half. Ferris hit a last-second 3-pointer to go into the half leading 27-20.

The 3rd quarter was where Pine Bluffs gained some momentum as the Hornets scored 15 points to close the gap. However, Sandie Friday of Wyoming Indian seemed to be unstoppable in the 3rd quarter as most of her points came then. Pine Bluffs prevailed and Jaiden Shelit hit a huge 3-pointer to end the quarter trailing 39-35.

The Shelit 3-pointer gave her team the momentum it needed as the game got closer and closer, the Hornets had a four-point lead with 3:15 left to go in the 4th quarter.

Angela Astorga of Wyoming Indian was playing with four fouls towards the end of the game. With just over two minutes left Astorga was able to bring the game within two by hitting two clutch free-throws, then with just under two minutes to play she stole the ball and tied up the game for her team. Jaden Ferris then was able to hit some free throws to extend the team's lead.

The final score of the game was 52-46 with Wyoming Indian claiming victory over Pine Bluffs.

Angela Astorga was the leading scorer for the Lady Chiefs with 20 points, she also had five rebounds and four steals to her totals. Jaden Ferris had 14 points and Sandie Friday had 13 points, 12 rebounds, and three steals in the win.

The Lady Chiefs had 15 total steals in the contest. The team also was able to score 20 points off of turnovers and was 16-20 from the free-throw line.

The leading scorer for Pine Bluffs was Jaiden Shelit with 20 points. The Hornets shot 48.0% from the field in the 2nd half. The team also had 20 turnovers in the loss.
