The WyoPreps big school Game of the Week as voted on by the fans is in Class 4A. It has No. 1 Cheyenne East at No. 3 Natrona County Mustangs.

Both teams opened the 2022 season with a victory in Week 0.

The Thunderbirds beat Campbell County, 47-28, in Cheyenne. East jumped out to a 40-0 lead before the Camels scored. They put up 498 yards of total offense in the victory. Cam Hayes threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns. Drew Jackson added 211 all-purpose yards and a rush TD.

Natrona won at Laramie, 40-0. Wyatt Powell ran for two touchdowns and threw for another. Nolan Hornecker added a pair of TD passes, while Mason Weickum contributed a TD run. The Mustangs out-gained the Plainsmen, 340-to-50 in total offensive yards. NC’s defense had four sacks.

WyoPreps talked with East head coach Chad Goff. The conversation centered around what he saw from his team in their first game, the performance of Cam Hayes, the line of scrimmage, both of Natrona’s lines, his respect for the Mustangs program, and some keys to victory.

WyoPreps was unable to visit with Natrona County head coach Steve Harshman.

This game will be the 69th in the series. NC leads 45-23, but the Thunderbirds have won the last three.

The kick-off is at 7 p.m. in Casper at Cheney Alumni Field.
