Carrying momentum over from a great indoor track season, Evanston senior Jesus Quintero is enjoying a very good outdoor season this spring.

Quintero is already pre-qualified in his three individual events and on one relay for the 2022 outdoor track state championships.

The Evanston senior has top-five times in both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. His best effort in the 110-meter hurdles is in 15.62 seconds. Quintero ran 41.23 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles. He also is among the top three in the high jump with his best mark at 6-2. Quintero also ran on a leg on Evanston’s 4x100 meter relay (44.26) that already has a spot in the state championships.

Recently, WyoPreps had a chance to video chat with Quintero. The senior feels his season is going pretty well. We asked him how his success during the indoor season has helped in this outdoor season. Also, what he’s focusing on with his events, not seeing some of the other competitors around the state, how he might surprise some at regionals and state, what he loves about track and field, and more.

Quintero placed in the top six of both hurdle races at last year’s state meet. He also competed in the high jump and ran on the Red Devils’ 4x100 relay.

Back in early March, Quintero won the 55-meter hurdles and high jump at the 2021 Wyoming Indoor Track State Championship in Gillette.

The 2022 Wyoming High School State Outdoor Track Championships are May 19-21 in Casper.
