Bettinger And Nichols Are The WyoPreps Athletes Of The Week 8-21-25 [VIDEO]

Two outstanding junior golfers are the first WyoPreps Athlete of the Week award winners in the 2025-26 school year. The prep golf season began last week with four events, and Buffalo’s Addison Bettinger and Wheatland’s Tate Nichols rose above the competition. Both won tournament titles by comfortable margins to start the new season: Bettinger in Powell and Nichols in Douglas. WyoPreps looked at performances from the competition week of Aug. 13 through Aug. 16 and selected these two student-athletes.

WYOPREPS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK WINNER 8-20-25

Girls’ Winner

Bettinger cruised to a 14-shot victory against competition from all three classes in the 10-team Powell Invitational last week. She shot 83 in the opening round and followed that up with the only girls’ round in the 70s with a 76. Her final round score was the lowest by a girl in the state last week.

WyoPreps caught up with Bettinger at another golf invite earlier this week. She described her play, which included some struggles in the first round. Bettinger also discussed the friendly competition, parts of the game she’s trying to improve, why she got into golf, and more.

Boys’ Winners

Nichols won the Douglas Invite by 11 shots over two golfers last week. He tied the course record with an opening round of 62 last Wednesday. Nichols fired a 71 in the final round last Thursday for a two-round total of 133, which was the lowest in the state during the first week of the 2025 season. He also led the Wheatland Bulldogs to the team title by two shots with a 622 total.

Nichols spoke with WyoPreps about his tournament victory, his 62 in the first round, the benefits of seeing courses multiple times, areas of his game he’s trying to improve, carrying a bit of a target on his back, and more.
