
Kemmerer, Buffalo, Wheatland, Evanston, and Laramie Players Capture 2025 Golf Titles
Two sophomores, two juniors, and two seniors won individual golf state championships on Saturday at the 2025 Wyoming High School Golf State Championships in Douglas, Cody, and Cheyenne, respectively. Most of the favorites finished in first place, team-wise, as well. Your 2025 state champs are Tazlyn Wagner and Trevan Benson of Kemmerer, Addison Bettinger from Buffalo, Wheatland’s Tate Nichols, Evanston’s Madison Brown, and Carson Moniz from Laramie. The team winners included the Thermopolis girls and Sundance boys in Class 2A, Wheatland swept Class 3A, and the Evanston girls and Campbell County boys prevailed in Class 4A.

Wagner cruised to a second straight title, as she claimed the 2A girls’ crown by 28 shots. The 15-year-old sophomore shot 73 and 75 for a two-day total of 148. Kelsie Griffin of Ten Sleep was the runner-up at 176. Ruth Needham of Thermopolis came in third at 180. The Bobcats won the girls’ team title by 71 shots, as Thermopolis had four golfers finish among the top six, including ties. Their team’s score was 559. This was the second title in the last three years for the Thermopolis girls and fourth in school history.
Benson made it a sweep for the Rangers. The Kemmerer sophomore fired rounds of 77 and 74 and won by six shots. His two-round total was 151. Tongue River’s East Lewis was the runner-up at 157. Wright’s Colton Gerler placed third at 162. The Sundance boys won the team title by 27 shots with a two-day total of 708. The Bulldogs had three golfers in the top ten and another in the top 15. This is Sundance’s second boys’ golf state title in school history and first since 2001.
Wheatland Stands Out in 3A
The Bulldogs swept the two team titles, had the boys’ champ, and the girls' runner-up. Junior Tate Nichols won his second straight 3A individual medalist honor. After trailing by two shots with a 73 in the first round, Nichols fired a 69 in the final round and won by nine strokes. His two-day total was 142. He helped the Bulldogs win their second 3A boys’ title in a row and seventh in school history. Wheatland shot a 622-team total and won by eight shots. Individually, Wheatland’s Jacob Miller was second at 151, while William Oland of Lander took third at 152.
Buffalo junior Addison Bettinger fought off a few challengers to capture the 3A girls’ crown. She shot rounds of 76 and 78 for a 154 total. Bettinger won by seven shots. Haylie Nelson of Wheatland came in second place at 161. Defending champ Maddie Brace of Douglas finished third at 163. Led by Nelson and two others in the top eight, Wheatland won the team championship at 511, which was 16 shots ahead of Cody. This was the Bulldogs’ fourth girls’ golf title in school history, and all of them have come in the past five seasons.

Favorites Won the 4A Honors
Evanston senior Madison Brown held off several challenges to win the 2025 4A girls’ title. She shot rounds of 80 and 79 and captured first place by three strokes with a 159 total. Her final round was the only sub-80 score of the tournament. Bella Beach from Central was the runner-up at 162, and Khloe Romo from Kelly Walsh came in third at 165. Brown’s effort helped Evanston repeat as girls’ team champions. It was their fourth title in school history. The Red Devils had two players who tied for tenth. Their team score was 511, which was good for a four-shot victory.
On the boys’ side, Laramie senior Carson Moniz held off the field after rounds of 69 and 70. His two-day total was 139, which was good for a two-shot win. He is the third golfer from Laramie to win it all, joining Jackson McClaren in 2020 and Ted Piekenbrock in 1967. Campbell County’s Cade Peterson took second, two shots back, while his teammate Jaxon Burr was third and three shots behind Moniz. The Camels repeated as the team champs, led by Peterson and Burr. This was Campbell County’s sixth boys’ golf title in school history. They won by 10 shots with a team score of 590.
The 2025 high school golf season has concluded. The spring season will start in early April and run through mid-May.
