Sheridan’s Samantha Spielman tied for 13th place after the opening round of the High School Golf National Girls’ Invitational on Monday in Frisco, TX.

Spielman had the best round of the seven competitors in the field from Wyoming. She had three birdies and four bogeys on the Field Ranch West course and ended up at 1-over par with a round of 73. Spielman is a recent graduate of Sheridan High School and is heading to the University of Wyoming this fall.

Colorado’s Hadley Ashton, Oklahoma’s Lisa Herman, and Arizona’s Jennifer Seo shared the first-round lead at 2-under par with rounds of 70.

Casper’s Carli Kalus shot an 80 or 9-over par on the Old American course. She tied for 84th after round one. Teammate Madison Griffin (+11) was tied for 107th, while Haily Kalus (+15) tied for 139th, and Sydney Van Houten (+36) was 193rd, respectively.

Green River’s Isabell Salas was another Wyoming golf tied for 139th at 15-over par.

Wheatland’s Lily Nichols shot 92 and was at plus-21 or tied for 170th.

As a team, Casper Kelly Walsh was No. 22 out of 25 competing at plus-71 or a 355-team total.

Texas RGN led the way at 7-over par.

Round two is today. The final round is on Wednesday in Texas.
