The votes are in and like a first poll of the season, the rankings are a little bit all over the place.   The Coaches and Media cast ballots for the first football rankings of 2011.  Without further ado,  let's get it cranking!

4A

Sheridan has played in the last two 4A championships under Don Julian.  Voters have them picked to go a third time and win it for a second.   The Broncs took 8 of the 15 #1 votes to outscore defending champion Natrona who got six.   East got the other #1 vote and ranks 4th.   Gillette is #3 with Evanston #5.  Laramie, Central and Rock Springs all got votes in the first poll of the season.

3A

The poll reads Douglas, then everyone else pretty much.  And I do mean everyone else.  Twelve teams got votes in the 3A voting.  The three time defending champion Bearcats got 14 of the 18 #1 votes.  Cody got one and ranks second, Buffalo is third.  Newcomer to the 3A division Green River picked up 2 first place votes but not enough other support to go higher than fourth.   Powell is #5.   The other #1 vote went to Rawlins.  It was the only vote the Outlaws received and did not get them in the top five.   Riverton, Star Valley, Jackson, Torrington, Worland and Lander also got votes.

2A

2A saw 14 teams receive consideration for the first poll of the season.   Seven different teams got a #1 vote.  As the dust settles, its Lovell that is #1 with 5 top ballots.   Two time defending champion Thermopolis ranks second with four #1's.   Runner up Big Horn is tied for third with newcomer Wheatland.  The Bulldogs were 3A up until this year.  Lyman is fifth.   Wright and Kemmerer each received a #1 vote with seven other teams getting at least one vote.

1A

Cokeville is where they ended last year,  on top.  The Panthers took all but 2 of the #1 votes to reign over 1A.  Southeast picked up a chunk of #2 votes and are ranked #2.  Runner up Lusk took the other 2 top votes back are one place back of the Cyclones.   Lingle is fourth with Rocky Mountain #5.    Burlington, Pine Bluffs and Shoshoni each received votes this week.

6 Man Football

Snake River won it all last year and are favored to do it again this year.  The Rattlers took 11 of the 16 top votes to go into 2011 as #1.   Dubois,  who shook up 1A last year, ranks second with 4 #1 votes.  Hanna and Kaycee are tied for third with Midwest #5.   The five other teams also got votes in the division.
