Casper skiers swept the Day 2 races at the 2024 Wyoming High School Nordic Skiing State Championships on Casper Mountain on Saturday. Defending champion Ally Wheeler finished with her second title of the weekend. She blew away the competition in the 10km Classic race by well over two minutes. FiskBergstrom Johansson of Kelly Walsh won the boys' Classic race by 29 seconds. The Lander girls and Kelly Walsh boys won the team championships in 2024.

2024 WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL NORDIC SKIING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL RESULTS

The Lander Tigers placed four girls in the top eight of the freestyle race and had four skiers who finished second through fifth in the classic race to roll to a second straight team crown and 12th in school history.

The Kelly Walsh boys won their first team championship since 1995 and just their third in school history. The Trojans had one skier in the top nine of the freestyle race, but the four others were tenth through 13th. In the classic race, KW had the champ, plus four more in the top 15. It was enough to hold off Lander in the boys' division.

GIRLS FINAL TEAM STANDINGS

Lander 230 (points), Kelly Walsh 165, Natrona County 148, Cody 117, Laramie 100, Sheridan 70, Jackson 54, Pinedale 39.

BOYS FINAL TEAM STANDINGS

Kelly Walsh 218 (points), Lander 206, Natrona County 196, Laramie 140, Sheridan 93, Jackson 46, Pinedale 10, Cody.

 

SATURDAY CLASSIC RESULTS

Wheeler showcased her skills with a fast time of 31:07.00 for the victory. She towered over the field for a second straight day on her home course. Ameya Eddy of Lander finished in second place at 33:51.62. That was 2:44.62 behind Wheeler. Annika Wilmot of Lander came in third place at 34:11.11, which was over three minutes back of Wheeler. In the boys' race, Johansson pulled away for his first individual state title. He crossed the finish line at 28:13.36. Bennett Hutchison of Lander took second place at 28:42.57. That was nearly 30 seconds back of Johansson. Lander's Diego Lobatos had his second top-three finish in third. His time was 29:10.92. Click below for the final race results.

FRIDAY FREESTYLE RESULTS

Defending champions Ally Wheeler from Natrona County and Bennett Hutchison of Lander captured the 5km freestyle or skate races on Day 1 of the 2024 Wyoming High School Nordic Skiing State Championships on Friday. Wheeler dominated and won the girls’ race by over a minute. Hutchison pulled out an 11-second win over a teammate.

Wheeler skied the course in a brisk 15:07.15. Lander’s Emily Anderson placed second at 16:19.49 or 1:12.34 back of Wheeler. Third place went to Eliza Fay of Laramie. She skied the 5km course at 16:27.33. To see the results, click the button.

Hutchison crossed the line at 13:16.09 for his second consecutive freestyle individual state championship. Teammate Diego Lobatos finished second at 13:27.60. Kalel Brubaker of Natrona County came in third at 13:28.11. Find the full results by clicking the button below.
