The Lander Tigers’ dominance over the 3A boys swimming and diving state championships continued last weekend. Lander made it 30 in a row last Saturday at the East High School Aquatics Facility in Cheyenne. The Tigers won two events and utilized their depth to score 325 team points and win another crown by 84 points.

Lander’s first victory was from freshman Gavin Jorgensen in the 200 Free at 1:49.37. Senior Carter Plaisted won the 100 Backstroke race at 54.61 seconds. The Tigers added 19 top-six finishes, which included runner-up efforts in the 200-medley relay and Brooks Even in the 100 Breaststroke race.

Buffalo finished second in the team standings with 241 points. Lyman took third at 194 points.

The Bison displayed their power with seven victories. Buffalo swept all three relays. Individually, junior Everett Thomas was a standout, as he captured first place in the sprint freestyle races. Thomas won the 50 Free in 20.72 seconds and the 100 Free in 47.04 seconds. Everett earned the 3A Athlete of the Meet award and shared the Athlete of the Year award. Buffalo’s other victories were by Asher Murray in the 100 Butterfly (53.22) and Jay Hahn in the 100 Breaststroke (58.72).

Cody’s Bryson Laing repeated as the state diving champion. He scored 474.15 points through 11 dives. Laing shared the Athlete of the Year honor.

The other two individual event winners included Gavin Hoover from Newcastle, who touched the wall first in the 200 IM at 2:02.19, and Lyman’s Trey Buckner was the 500 Free state champ at 5:06.09.

The 3A Coach of the Year Award was shared between Buffalo’s Mike Miller and Loren Huntsman from Lyman. The 3A Assistant Coach of the Year was Cami Jackson from Cody.
