
Laramie Girls, Sheridan Boys Captured 4A Indoor Track Championships in 2025
The 2025 Wyoming High School Indoor Track 4A State Championships were highlighted by 12 state records and 13 class records that were broken or tied last weekend in Gillette. The Laramie girls’ won their second state championship in school history. On the boys’ side, Sheridan won its second straight title in sixth in the last seven seasons. The Lady Plainsmen won six events to pace the girls’ division, and the Broncs won six in the boys’ division.
2025 WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL INDOOR TRACK 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
Sophomore Lainey Berryhill led Laramie to their first title since 2019. She won the 200, 400, and 800-meter races. Berryhill set a new state and class record in the 400 meters at 57.01 seconds. Her margin of victory was 2.31 seconds. In the 200-meters, Lainey edged teammate Ava Wallhead by 0.08 seconds. Berryhill’s time was 25.45 seconds. The sophomore beat the defending champ in the 800 meters after crossing the finish line at 2:15.95. Laramie also picked up a win from junior Kate Lewis in the shot put at 39-8. The other two victories were in relays. Laramie won the 4x400 at 4:08.66 and the Sprint Medley Relay at 4:17.56.
The Lady Plainsmen finished the two-day track meet with 118 team points. Thunder Basin came in second place at 104.5. Kelly Walsh took third with 81.83 points, and Sheridan was fourth in the girls’ division with 63.5 team points.
Cheyenne Central set the other state and class record in the girls’ division. They won the 4x800 relay at 9:46.89 and had a margin of victory of over 23 seconds.
Cheyenne East sophomore Maggie Madsen won two events. She defended her title in the 1600 meters at 5:06.99. Madsen also finished first in the 3200 meters at 11:00.27.
4A Boys put on a show
The boys’ division saw 11 state records tied or bettered.
Sheridan’s Chance Morris led the Broncs with two individual victories. He tied the state record in the 55-meter dash at 6.57 seconds. Former Sheridan sprinter Carter McComb set the mark back in 2022. Morris established a new record in the 200 meters at 21.85 seconds. The Broncs’ other individual wins came from Garrett Otto in the 55-meter hurdles at 7.87 seconds, and Ryder Charest in the 800 meters at 1:58.17. Sheridan set new state records in their 4x400 (3:24.82) and 4x800 (8:09.48) relays.
The Broncs finished with 118 team points and easily won the team crown by 44.5 points. Cheyenne Central took second at 73.5. Star Valley brought home the third-place trophy with 64 points, and Thunder Basin finished fourth with 62 points.
Star Valley distance-running sensation Jase Burton broke two records in his event wins. He ran 4:12.01 for a new top time in the 1600 meters and 9:04.64 in the 3200 meters.
Laramie junior Flynn Arnold crossed the finish line first in the 400 meters at 48.29 seconds. That was a new record. Natrona’s Kavin Hoff won the pole vault and broke the old state record, which had stood since 2006. He cleared 16-5.25. Kelly Walsh senior Landon Walker got the triple jump record with a leap of 48-8. The last two records were in relays. Thunder Basin established a new time in the 4x200 at 1:30.82. Laramie topped the old 4A class record in the Sprint Medley Relay at 3:37.49.
