The 2025-26 Wyoming High School Wrestling season is upon us. Teams have been practicing since November 24 in preparation for the official start of wrestling competition this weekend. The defending state champions are the Star Valley girls. On the boys' side, it's Thunder Basin in 4A, Powell in 3A, and Moorcroft in 2A. What's in store for 2026? WyoPreps provides a small glimpse into the new season with an overview of individual champions coming back and some team favorites ahead of the new year.
WYOPREPS 2026 WRESTLING PREVIEW
Girls Division
Star Valley looks to make it four in a row. The Braves have a returning state champ in Remington Aullman at 135 pounds. Star Valley also features state placers in Cara Andrews, Oakley Hepworth, Lillian Anderson, Brooke Schwab, and Carlee Angell. The Braves might have too much depth for others to overtake them. One of the top contenders will be Thermopolis. The Bobcats are led by two-time defending state champion Lily Quintanilla and another returning title-winner, Alix Sorensen. Pinedale looks to be in the mix with the Mortensen sisters (Kaylea won a title last season) and Fatima Mata. Overall, ten title winners out of the 14 weight classes return on the girls’ side. Six more schools have a returning champion on their roster vying for another title. That’s Campbell County's Ellie Bouzis, Kaylie Julander from Kemmerer, Rylin Plant of Rock Springs, Jackson's Tai McBride, Natrona County's Marley Dickinson, and Ashten Hubbs from Cody.
4A Boys
Class 4A has the most returning champions on the boys’ side, with eight wrestlers looking to reclaim their titles. Three of those are from two-time defending team champion Thunder Basin. Lucas Stirling, Rylan McCormick, and Breckin Henry lead a Bolts’ squad that has 13 other wrestlers back from their 2025 state roster. Cheyenne East, Kelly Walsh, and Star Valley look to be the best contenders to dethrone Thunder Basin. The Braves have two returning titlists: Tel and Kimball Parry. Tel Parry is the only wrestler in the state seeking to join the elite four-time state champion club. The Thunderbirds, Trojans, and Sheridan Broncs have champions back on their rosters for the 2025-26 season.
3A Boys
This class looks like a two-horse race early on. Defending champ Powell lost a lot, and the Panthers are not among the top teams entering the season. That designation belongs to Cody and Pinedale. The Wranglers return three of the seven defending state champs. That’s Wylee Wilson, Landon Fornstrom, and Cale Dauwen. Pinedale also has four other state qualifiers back. Cody will also be in the hunt for the title with 11 wrestlers back from last year’s 3rd-place team. That includes three runner-up wrestlers for the Broncs. Torrington, Lander, Wheatland, and Glenrock are the other teams with champions back on the mat in 2026. Douglas might be the third team in the mix with Cody and Pinedale. The Bearcats return five state placers from 2025.
2A Boys
Thermopolis, Cokeville, and Moorcroft are the early front-runners in this division. 2A will crown the most brand-new champions out of any class. Only four title-winners return this season. The Bobcats in Hot Springs County have two of them in Dyllan Myers and Cannon Boren. They also return six other state qualifiers. The two-time defending champion Moorcroft Wolves have 13 wrestlers back from their state roster, but they lost some key performers. Cokeville returns six wrestlers in the top five, so the Panthers will look to move up the standings. Kemmerer, the 2025 runner-up, has nine state qualifiers back this season. Other teams with defending champs are Wind River and Greybull/Riverside, with Landon Rhyne and Loomis Alexander, respectively. Greybull/Riverside could be a factor in the team race.
