PhotoFest: Wyoming Indian Basketball Splits with Lodge Grass, MT
The Wyoming Indian boys and girls basketball teams took on Lodge Grass, Montana on Saturday in Ethete, and both games were compelling. The Wyoming Indian boys are the defending 2A State Champions but lost to Lodge Grass 84-77 to drop to 6-3 on the year. The Chiefs played well enough to win with a solid effort at the free throw line but Lodge Grass was red hot from the perimeter. Heeyeiniitou Monroe-Black had a sensational game for Wyoming Indian with 32 points and has been averaging 17 points a game this season. Cordell Spoonhunter chipped in 10 and has been throwing in 13 points per contest this year.
The Lady Chiefs of Wyoming Indian entered Saturday's contest with Lodge Grass as the #1 offense and #1 shooting team in 2A. They jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter and rang up 45 points in the first half en route to a 74-65 victory. Paisley Blackburn, who has been averaging 13 points a game threw in a game-high 20, and Taya Dixey tossed in 14 and that has been her season average. There's no shortage of scorers on this team as Jamie Shoyo-Ferris contributed 19. The Lady Chiefs are 8-1 and took 3rd place at last year's 2A Girls State Tournament.
