A softball player and track athlete are the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week, presented by Premier Bone and Joint Centers. Following last week’s performances, April 7 through April 13, 2025, Thunder Basin senior Paige Shaffer and Midwest senior Quincy Paris were selected for the weekly awards. Shaffer led No. 2 Thunder Basin to a 5-1 week with a perfect record in the circle and a near .700 batting average on the softball diamond. Paris won three individual events and anchored a first-place relay in track and field.

WYOPREPS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK WINNERS 4-16-25

Shaffer went 3-0 and pitched her third shutout of the season, as the second-rated Bolts went 5-1 last week, which included three cross-pod victories. She pitched 17 innings last week and finished with a 2.471 ERA. Shaffer allowed only six runs on 19 hits. She walked nine but struck out 21 hitters. At the plate, Paige had a .692 batting average. She connected on nine hits, which included three doubles and three home runs. She finished with four runs scored, nine RBIs, one walk, only one strikeout, and one stolen base. Paige’s slugging percentage was 1.615, and her OPS was 2.330.

WyoPreps visited with Shaffer about her efforts last week. She felt she had a good week. We discussed her approach in the circle when she’s pitching, at the plate, adjustments with her hitting, what she loves about softball and more.

Boys Winner

Paris went 4-for-4 at the Mick Tonkel Fly High Classic track meet in Upton last week. He won the 100-meter dash in 11.75 seconds. He cleared 6-2 and earned the victory in the high jump. Quincy’s best leap in the long jump was 20-0.50, which was good for the win, and he anchored the Midwest 4x100-meter relay that had a time of 48.65 seconds. He scored 40 of the 46 points the Oilers had in the boys’ team standings. That means Paris accounted for nearly 87 percent of his team’s points in one track meet.

WyoPreps spoke with Quincy about his performance in Upton. While he felt good about it, Paris thought he could have done better. He loved competing in the warmer weather, felt his high jump effort was a little off, liked his long jump and 100 meters, discussed his focus in those events, how the relay victory came together, and more.

Congratulations to Paige and Quincy on being selected as the Premier Bone and Joint Centers WyoPreps Athletes of the Week!
