Cheerleaders, dancers, and a boys' wrestler were selected as the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week winners, presented by Premier Bone and Joint Centers. Based on their performances from last week, Jan. 20-25, 2025, the Rock Springs Cheer and Dance teams and Rawlins sophomore Hudson Baker earned the weekly accolade. Rock Springs brought home state championships from the state spirit competition in Casper, and Baker won a title at the Lander Invitational last weekend.

Girls Winners

Rock Springs dominated the 4A classification at the State Spirit Championships in Casper last Friday. The Tigers won four of the five categories. Rock Springs captured first place in the All-Girl Cheer with a final score of 82.2 points. Their margin of victory was 2.55 points. In Co-Ed Cheer, the Tigers scored 70.45 points and overcame a deduction for victory by 3.60 points. Rock Springs was not done. They swept the two dance categories. RSHS took first in the Hip-Hop with a score of 89.65 points and a razor-thin margin of victory of 0.475 points. Jazz Dance saw the Tigers score 88.7 team points for another top trophy. Rock Springs beat the runner-up by 2.025 points. It was a big weekend for Coach Douchant’s and Coach Serna’s squads.

WyoPreps had an opportunity to visit with two cheer captains, Nevaeh Anderson, and Ireland Lew, who reflected on the cheer titles. They described the feeling of hearing Rock Springs called for the first-place trophies, how bonding with other cheer teams helped before the competition, how it all came together in the right way, how their gymnastics background led them to cheerleading and more.

After that, WyoPreps caught up with three seniors from the dance team, Roxy Burns, Keira Forbush, and Jamilynn Stauffer to get their reaction to the titles in dance last Friday. Keira touched on the team’s reaction once they heard their name called for first place, Jamilynn discussed how nervous they were going into awards, Roxy explained some keys to their victories and how a late adjustment in hip-hop went well, and all three discussed their background and love for dance.

Boys Winner

Hudson Baker won the 120-pound championship last Friday and Saturday in the Lander Invitational. The sophomore won all five of his matches in dominating fashion. He out-scored his opponents 83-9 in five matches. He finished with three victories by tech fall and two by pin. The five wins pushed his record to 31-1 this season.

WyoPreps caught up with Hudson to visit about his effort on the wrestling mat last weekend. Baker assessed his performance, described bouncing back from a not-so-great finish at a tournament the week before, what his focus is on before a match, what he’s doing in training, and more.

Congratulations to the state champion Rock Springs High School Cheer and Dance teams and Hudson Baker on being named the Premier Bone and Joint Centers WyoPreps Athletes of the Week!
