Hoelscher, Hays, Villasana, and Ostheimer Earn WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Honors 5-29-25 [VIDEO]

Four state champion soccer players are the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week. After last week’s performances, May 19 through May 25, 2025, Jackson sophomore Ruby Hoelscher, Cody sophomore Grace Hays, Jackson sophomore Vicente Villasana, and Buffalo junior Orion Ostheimer were selected. All of them helped their team win a state title on the pitch last weekend in Gillette. WyoPreps split the videos into two parts because of the length of the interviews.

Girls Winners

Hoelscher scored six goals and added two assists in the three matches for the Broncs at the 4A soccer state tournament. The sophomore had the hat trick with three goals in a 5-1 victory over Campbell County in the first round. She followed that with two more goals in the 4-1 semifinal win against Riverton. That put Jackson back into the title game for the third straight year. Hoelscher scored the only goal of the match, and it held up. The Jackson girls won their first 4A state championship. It was also their first soccer title since 2016 (in 3A).

WyoPreps visited with Hoelscher about how it feels to be a state champ. She thought it was some of the best soccer she had played. Ruby described the adverse conditions within the title match, described her winning goal, her soccer background, and more.

Hays scored five goals, which included two game-winning goals, and that helped the Cody Fillies win the 3A state championship. Hays started with a hat trick in the opening match, where Cody beat Buffalo 8-0. She had the game-winner in a 2-1 semifinal victory over Lander. Grace also scored the game-winner and only goal of the match early in the second half from nearly 25 yards out against Powell. The Fillies beat their rivals, 1-nil. It gave Cody their seventh title in school history.

Hays told WyoPreps that she was very happy not to finish second again this school year. She also discussed her play at the state tournament, her game-winning goals, how she utilizes her speed, and more.

Boys Winners

Vicente Villasana scored four goals and added two assists in Jackson’s run to the 2025 Class 4A boys’ soccer state championship. He scored one goal and had two assists in the 5-1 victory over Thunder Basin in the first round. Villasana scored one goal in a 2-0 win against Cheyenne Central in the semifinal match. He had both goals, which included the game-winner, in the title match against Sheridan, which Jackson won 2-1. The Broncs went back-to-back and won the championship in boys’ soccer for the fifth time in the last seven seasons.

Vicente told WyoPreps it felt amazing to win it all. He described their journey to the title last weekend in Gillette, his goals against Sheridan, battling some of the elements, their undefeated season, and more.

Orion Ostheimer came up big when his team needed him the most. At the 3A boys’ soccer state tournament, he made eight total saves across three games. That does not include two huge saves in the championship match shootout versus Cody. Orion made one save in a 3-nil win over Powell in the first round. He added four saves in the semifinal victory against Lander, 3-1. In the title match, Ostheimer was credited with three saves in regulation and overtime, which kept the match at 0-0. It went to penalty kicks in the shootout, and Buffalo prevailed 4-3, thanks to Orion’s two big saves against the Broncs.

He told WyoPreps that being a state champ has finally sunk in. Ostheimer discussed his performance in the net at the state tournament, reflected on the two saves in the shootout, his strategy in those, credited his defense for their help, and more.
