The first WyoPreps Athlete of the Year award for Boys’ Rodeo, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and Wyld Gear, goes to Gillette’s Keyton Hayden. He capped an outstanding high school rodeo season with an all-around title and competed at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs last week.

Hayden competed in three events during the high school season. He won two and placed in the top four of the third event. Hayden won the boys’ cutting in the 2023-24 season with 246.50 points. Keyton also won the tie-down roping for the season with 212.50 points. Hayden and his partner, Austin Pixley from Sundance, took fourth in the team roping after compiling 140.50 points in the season. Those results led to Hayden winning the All-Around title for the Wyoming High School Rodeo Association’s 2023-24 season. He scored 480 points and won by a margin of 37 points over fellow Gillette cowboy Talon Larson.

After he placed in the top four of his three events, Hayden participated in the 2024 NHSFR in Rock Springs. His best effort came in the cutting, finishing 16th in the aggregate at 425.5. That included a 13th place in the short go or finals.
