Cokeville Claims Third Straight Girls 1A Basketball Championship
The Cokeville Panthers beat the Upton Bobcats 62-48 on Thursday night to win the Class 1A state championship.
The Panthers made it a 3-peat after they won in 2019 and 2020. The team now has a total of 11 girls' basketball state titles in school history.
Cokeville put on a strong performance to win the title game.
The Panthers controlled the game from the start. They opened with a 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Going into halftime the Panther's lead was 28-21 and the Panthers did not slow down after that. They were winning 44-28 at the end of the third quarter.
Emmie Barnes of Cokeville led way for her team. Barnes had 33 points and simply could not be slowed down.
Barnes shot 11-for-17 from the field and was able to hit 3 three-pointers. She was eight-for-nine at the free-throw line and added seven total rebounds in the championship game.
Cokeville held a 19- point lead at one time in the game. The Panthers went 40% from the field.
Cokeville forced Upton into 33 turnovers in the game and capitalized with 31 total points off those turnovers.
The Panthers also out-rebounded the Bobcats by 36-23.
Alyson Louderback was the leading scorer for Upton with 15 total points in the game.
