Thunder Basin hosted their Invitational Golf Tournament on Thursday and Friday at the Bell Nob Golf Club in Gillette. On Thursday, it was windy and some tricky greens didn't make it any easier for the boys and girls.

On the boys' side, Kelly Walsh's Isaac Schmidt finished 6 over par with rounds of 76 and 74, earning him a 1st place finish by 3 strokes over Jackson Evans of Campbell County, Nash Coleman of Cheyenne East, and Robert Vigneri from Natrona.

At last year's State 4A Tournament, Schmidt placed 9th so he's making some steps forward. Evans and Coleman carded rounds of 79 and 74 with Coleman taking 4th at the 2023 4A State Tournament and Evans 5th. Vigneri shot 80 on day #1 and 73 on day #2 with a 21st last year at State. Jaxson Bratton from NC was with an 82 and 72 with an 11th-place finish in the 2023 culminating event.

In the boys' team standings, Campbell County edged Thunder Basin by 3 strokes for 1st with Kelly Walsh 3rd, Cheyenne Central 4th, and Cheyenne East 5th.

For the girls, the individual medalist was Sheridan's Shelbi Gardner who shot 84 and 77. She was 3rd at the 4A State Tournament a year ago and won the Gillette Tournament by 8 strokes over Khloe Romo of Kelly Walsh who recorded rounds of 87 and 82. Romo was 34th at the 2023 State Tournament so she has really improved. Finishing 3rd in Gillette was Camryn Wagner of Sheridan with an 84 and 86; she is coming off a 6th place finish at State last season. KW's Madeline Kay was 4th going 88-89 and was 18th last year at the State Tourney, Molly Parker of Douglas was 5th with a 90-92 scorecard and placed 17th at the 3A State Tournament last season.

Sheridan won the team title at Bell Nob by 3 strokes over Kelly Walsh with Douglas 3rd, Cheyenne Central 4th, and Campbell County 5th.
