New No. 1 and New Teams Highlight New WyoPreps Boys Basketball Rankings
A new No. 1 in Class 4A is the main change to the new WyoPreps Coaches and Media Boys Basketball Poll.
There are three new teams in this week’s rankings and at least one change in all four classes.
For the first time this season, someone other than Thunder Basin is on top of 4A. The Sheridan Broncs' two wins last weekend, which included a head-to-head win over the Bolts, put Sheridan No. 1. The Broncs earned 15 of the 17 first-place votes. Thunder Basin fell one spot to second. Kelly Walsh also fell one spot to third. Cheyenne East is the only team that held steady. The Thunderbirds are still fourth. Two new teams enter the 4A top-five in a tie for fifth. It’s Riverton and Cheyenne South. Both are in the rankings for the first time this season.
Class 1A has the other new team in the top five. Cokeville’s two road wins last week pushed the Panthers up to third in the latest poll. Upton is still No. 1 and a unanimous choice with all 15 first-place votes. Dubois stayed second, and the Rams are nearly a unanimous pick for that spot. After the Panthers, Saratoga fell to fourth. They lost at home to Cokeville last Friday night. Meeteetse remained fifth. Six other teams received votes.
The top two are the same in Class 3A. Douglas and Worland have held those spots most of the season. Rawlins made a move up to third. That pushed Buffalo down to fourth. Lyman held at No. 5.
Pine Bluffs and Tongue River remain first and second in 2A. The Hornets received 12 of the 15 first-place votes. The Eagles got the other three. Rocky Mountain and Wind River trade spots. The Grizzlies are now third, which pushed the Cougars to fourth. Big Horn is alone in fifth this week. Five more teams earned votes in the new poll.
