Snow Shortage Delays Start of High School Nordic Ski Season in Wyoming
The Wyoming High School Nordic Skiing season was originally scheduled to begin this weekend, but the schedule has been revised. Due to a lack of snow and other factors that lead to unsafe course conditions, Jackson’s Trail Creek Tangle has been postponed. The final decision was made on Monday night. Jackson Hole High School AD Ryan Allen told WyoPreps via email that a make-up date has not been determined.

This race served as both a high school event and a Junior National Qualifier (JNQ) for NRL. Friday was supposed to be a 5km skate race, and Saturday was intended to be a 1.25km classic sprint.
It was the only race scheduled before the holiday break. The next event is in Pinedale on Jan. 2 and 3, 2026, but even that will depend on Mother Nature. Nordic Skiers began practice on Monday, Nov. 17, but with a lack of snow around the state, it’s been more dry land training than anything else. That’s not to say some skiing on the trails hasn’t been done, but it’s been a challenge for teams.
