The girls’ state championships in the 2025 prep swimming and diving season are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in Laramie. Class 4A features 14 teams in the field, and 3A will have 11 competing. The scoring format remains at 12 finishers this year before moving to the approved 16-competitor scoring next year. Based on previous state championships and the top times and performances turned in during the season so far, WyoPreps previews what we think will happen this weekend.

WYOPREPS 2025 GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

Here is a breakdown of the favorites for individual events and relay races. Plus, a look at how the team rankings stack up.

Class 4A

Swimmers and divers from Green River, Jackson, Campbell County, Cheyenne Central, and Laramie will contend for individual titles in the pool this week. With all but two defending event champions returning, the favorites are easy to spot, depending on where they swim in a team’s lineup.

Tavia Arnell from Green River and Jackson’s Amaya Olivieri and Maren Tattersall will be a factor in whichever event they compete. Arnell enters the state championships with the top time in five of the eight swimming events and is second in two more. She is the defending champ in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly races. Tattersall leads the two distance freestyle events, the 200 and 500, where she is the defending champ. Olivieri has a top-four time in six of the races. She won the 100-backstroke last year. Another returning champ is Campbell County’s Brooke Noble. She was the 100-breaststroke winner in 2024.

Plenty of other contenders in the pool include Cheyenne East’s Nzelle Ayokosok in the sprint freestyle races; Cheyenne Central’s Kayleigh Hood, especially in the 100-backstroke race; Sheridan’s Hannah Mowry, Jackson’s Anna Baxter and Indi Olivieri, and Laramie’s Addi Graves and Libbie Roesler could also factor into some races.

4A diving is led by Central’s Ella Reed, Evanston’s Rachel Johnson, and Laramie’s Brynlee Enevoldsen. All three have scored more than 400 points in an 11-dive format this season.

Jackson has the top times in the 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays. Green River, Riverton, and Campbell County will push the Broncs. In the 400 free relay, Riverton has the best time of the season, but Jackson and Cheyenne Central should be in contention.

The team title will be interesting. Jackson and Cheyenne Central look to be the favorites coming off the conference swim meets. Other teams fighting for the podium are Campbell County, Sheridan, Laramie, Riverton, and Thunder Basin.

Class 3A

After winning last year by 232 points and returning all their defending event champs, Lander is an overwhelming favorite to win this division again. It would be their second in a row and fourth in the last five years, including a tie in 2021. The Tigers have dominated throughout the 2025 season against 3A competition and beaten plenty of 4A teams. They bring back Vayda Havens, Emily Plaisted, Katy Anderson, and Sara Kearns. Havens won the two distance freestyle races last year. Plaisted captured the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke races in 2024. Anderson was the winner in the 100-yard butterfly and backstroke races, and Kearns was the sprint freestyle champ last year. Lander’s depth also helped them dominate all three relays in 2024.

Havens and Anderson have top times among 3A qualifiers in five swimming events.

Lander does not have the top time entering the championships in the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 200 IM. Kemmerer freshman Logan Rogers has the fastest time in the 50 free this season. Buffalo’s Milan Monterastelli leads the breaststroke and IM races. Those two will contend with the Lander contingent.

Other top swimmers include Cody’s Summer LaVigne, Guinevere Roberson from Douglas, Maggie Williams of Sublette County, Powell’s Kaitlin Diver and Patricia Christensen, and Buffalo’s Katey Jacob.

Buffalo’s Horizon Hanson is the defending champ on the diving board. She’ll be pushed by Hanna Walker of Kemmerer, who has the best 11-dive score this year. Brooklyn White of Lander could be a dark horse.

Lander is a favorite in all three relays. The Tigers have the top times in each, and they could dominate the 400 free relay, where their time is over 30 seconds faster than the next best school. Buffalo and Cody could contend in the other relays.

In the team competition, after Lander, the battle will be between Buffalo, Cody, Douglas, and Kemmerer.
