The star of the show at 113 pounds at the State Wrestling Tournament was Sefton Douglass of Lyman in Class 3A. He won the 3rd state championship of his career and finished the year 40-0 after an 8-1 win over Zachary Covolo of Rawlins. Most observers wanted to see Douglass wrestler three-time state champion Dominic Martinez of Green River in the finals but Martinez was upset by Covolo in the quarter-final round. Covolo deserves a lot of credit as he went 23-2 as a freshman but Douglass is a supremely talented wrestler. He has the potential to do some big things in this sport later in his career. Martinez by the way took 3rd at 113 with a 7-1 win over Jake Hammer from Pinedale. Martinez was 18-3 this season while Hammer went 42-5 as a freshman. Nycholas Melchor of Douglas placed with a pin of Kobe Swain of Worland.

In 2A, Sean Buckmiller of Moorcroft rallied to beat defending state champion Brock Blevins of Southeast by a fall. It looked dire for Buckmiller but he came up with a big-time move for the pin and the senior finished the year 38-2. Blevins, also a senior wrapped things up at 20-2. Wyatt Sylvester of Lingle/Southeast took 3rd at 113 with a pin of Aiden Ruby of Wright. Sylvester went 23-4 as a freshman and Ruby, another freshman went 26-13.

Finally in 4A, Antonio Avila of Thunder Basin lost just one match this year with 30 wins as he outlasted Darron Provost of Campbell County 11-5. Avila is a freshman and Provost a sophomore, so we'll see them again, Provost finished the year 15-3. The 3rd place finisher at 113 was Tate Tromble of Natrona who took 3rd at 106 last season. He pinned Colt Welsh of Campbell County in the first period to cap the year at 31-8. Welsh was 24-11. Cheyenne Central's Wyatt Weiss took 5th with a victory over teammate Bryson Heilbut.

We have some video of the state championship matches at 113 pounds. Enjoy!
