Two wrestlers are the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week winners. Thermopolis freshmen Lilly Quintanilla and Evanston senior Brady Roberts earned recognition for last week’s performances on the wrestling mat at two different annual tournaments.

Quintanilla won the 120-pound title at the Don Runner Memorial in Pavillion, WY. The freshman stayed undefeated with three victories by pin. She took just 46 seconds to pin her first opponent. Needed only 24 seconds for her next pin, and in the finals, Lilly won by fall in 1:07. Quintanilla is now 17-0 on the season. She is the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 115, according to Wyowrestling.com rankings.

WyoPreps spoke with Quintanilla before practice on Wednesday. She reflected on her performance at the Don Runner tournament, briefly took us through her matches, discussed what she is trying to improve right now, spoke about how she got into wrestling, and more.

Roberts won all his matches, 8-0, at the Thoman Soda Ash Dual Tournament in Green River. He started by pinning his first three opponents. After a forfeit victory, Roberts got past Sam Thornhill of Rock Springs in a 6-4 decision. In his team’s two placing matches, as part of the Silver Bracket, he pinned his first opponent and used an 8-0 major decision to stay undefeated for the weekend. Roberts won the 175-pound best-of-the-best match with a hard-fought 6-5 win over Christian Hartle of Uintah, UT, who won the team dual tournament title. He is the No. 1 wrestler at 175 in the latest 3A rankings from Wyowrestling.com.

Roberts chatted with WyoPreps on Wednesday about his successful weekend. He felt he wrestled solidly, reviewed his weekend on the mat, knew some competition was better than others, discussed his rally to win in the best of the best match, what his focus is on, and more.

Congrats to Lilly and Brady!
