Yoder’s Hadley Thompson had quite the high school rodeo season and received the first WyoPreps Athlete of the Year award for Girls Rodeo. The honor was presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and Wyld Gear. Thompson was the season all-around champ, won one event, and placed in the top five of four others. She also had a terrific showing at the National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR).

Thompson won the Wyoming High School Rodeo Association’s breakaway roping title with 197.50 points. She also competed in four other events. Hadley and her partner, Asa Pixley from Sundance, took second in the team roping at 167.50 points. She placed fourth in barrel racing with 168 points and goat tying with 188.50 points. Thompson was fifth in the pole bending at 150 points. She won the WHSRA’s All-Around title with 871.50 points for the season. That was 389 points ahead of second place.

Thompson followed that with a great effort at the NHSFR. She was the Reserve All-Around cowgirl, took second in breakaway roping, and placed second in the goat tying. She helped Wyoming place fourth in the girls’ team standings. Thompson’s two horses also finished in the top ten of the AQHA Horse of the Year competition at the NHSFR.

WyoPreps spoke with Thompson while she was on the road preparing for a rodeo. Thompson said she learned a lot during the season, changed her perspective, liked participating in several events in each rodeo, thanked her parents, described her training for the events, and more.

Congratulations to Hadley Thompson for receiving this honor!
