The latest WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Girls’ Basketball Rankings has more change than the boys’ did on Wednesday.

There is a new No. 1 ranked team. This week features a pair of unanimous choice for the top spot in a classification. The 1A division has three newly ranked teams, and there is at least one change in each class.

Cheyenne East remains on top of Class 4A. The Thunderbirds received all but two first-place votes. Cross-town rival Cheyenne Central is the new No. 2. The Indians move up one spot from last week. That pushed defending champion Thunder Basin down to third. The Bolts are off this week. Meanwhile, Green River and Natrona County hold steady at four and five. All but Thunder Basin are part of the Taco John’s Invitational that starts Thursday and goes through Saturday with most of the action in Cheyenne.

Number one in Class 3A continues to be the Douglas Bearcats. They saw their lengthy win streak come to an end at the Energy Classic in Gillette last week to a team from California, but Douglas is still a unanimous pick for No. 1. Worland solidified their spot in second. Buffalo holds onto third, while Mountain View and Lander trade spots. The Buffaloes move up to fourth, which pushed the Tigers to No. 5. Worland, Buffalo, and Mountain View are all part of the Winter Classic in Rawlins on Friday and Saturday. Douglas and Lander are off this weekend.

The new top-ranked team in this week’s balloting is Wyoming Indian in Class 2A. The Chiefs regained the top spot with all but one first-place tally. That drops Pine Bluffs to second. Rocky Mountain, Southeast, and Wind River all remain the same in third, fourth, and fifth. Wyoming Indian and Rocky Mountain have interclass action this week, while the Hornets are part of the Taco John’s Invitational, and the Cougars have non-conference games.

Class 1A has the most change in the new poll, but not at the top. Cokeville is a unanimous pick for No. 1. The Panthers have been there for all four rankings this season. The first difference is H.E.M. moves to up one position to second, while Upton falls a spot to third. Rock River is ranked for the first time this season at No. 4. Lingle-Fort Laramie stays in the top five but in a tie for fifth with new entrants Saratoga and Farson-Eden. Both Panther teams, plus the Longhorns and Pronghorns are all in action at the Fossil Classic in Kemmerer. The Miners do not play this weekend, but the Bobcats and Doggers have quadrant action.
