Team Wyoming Challenged at Fargo Wrestling Tournament
The 50th annual 16U and Junior National Wrestling Tournament is continuing this week in Fargo, North Dakota and it's been a tough endeavor for Team Wyoming. All of the wrestlers in the Junior freestyle event have been eliminated. Kelly Walsh's Analu Benabise who was a four-time state champion went 2-2 in the 152-pound bracket with wins over Austin Foster of Pennsylvania and Garrett Washington of Oklahoma with losses to Johnathon Ley of Florida and Ben Shucartsman of Illinois.
At 113 pounds, reigning state champion Sefton Douglass of Lyman had 4 wins and 2 losses in the freestyle event, beating Wyatt Engwight of North Dakota, Jacob Levin of New York plus Ohio's Austin McBurney and Trevor Hisey. Douglass lost matches to Codie Cuerbo of Ohio and Michigan's Caden Horwath.
Another reigning state champion was Cody Phelps of Pinedale at 132 pounds who went 2-2 while Sheridan's Hayden Crow went 3-2 with wins over Cyncere Haskins of North Dakota, Breckin Schoeph of Nebraska, and Luke Masterson of North Carolina. Crow was defeated in the 160-pound bracket by Ian McGehee of Tennessee and Aiden Vanderbush from Wisconsin.
Buffalo's Ross Brenton went 0-2 at 106 pounds, Rocky Mountain's Nathaniel Boreen was 0-2 at 126 pounds, Wrights Kagen Baker and Kemmerer's Conner Vickery also went 0-2 at 132 pounds. At 138, Randy Peters of Moorcroft was 0-2 with Kendall Cummings of Evanstongoing 0-2 in that weight class. At 145 pounds, Wyatt McDermott of Thermopolis posted a win with 2 losses as did Trent Lytle of Rocky Mountain. Garrett Marker of Kelly Walsh and Tyzer Isenberger of Wright went 0-2 at 145.
Evanston's Raul Saavedra and Logan Branigan of Burns/Pine Bluffs went 1-2 at 152 pounds with Pinedale's Keegan Gehlhausen winning 1 and losing 2 at 170 pounds. Also at 170 pounds, Stetson Davis of Powell, Landon Heaps of Evanston, and Kayden Mack of Wright went 0-2.
Wright's Charlee Thomson was 0-2 at 182 pounds with Green River's Deylin Miller going 1-2 at 220 pounds.
