The 2025 Wyoming High School Golf State Championships are on Friday and Saturday. It is the first culminating event during the fall sports season. The three classifications will play 36 holes of medal play. That’s 18 holes both days in Cheyenne, Cody, and Douglas. Three defending champions will have a chance to win another title. Those three play in 2A girls, 3A girls, and 3A boys.

WYOPREPS 2025 STATE GOLF PREVIEW

Class 2A – Douglas Community Club in Douglas, WY (Lusk is the host)

The Sundance girls and Thermopolis boys are the defending team champions. If you look at the 2025 results through the first five weeks, Thermopolis might have a chance to sweep the team crowns. On the girls’ side, Tongue River looks like the main challenger for the team title. For the boys, the Bobcats will have to deal with a Wright team that continues to show great improvement. You cannot count out Kemmerer, either.

Tazlyn Wagner from Kemmerer will look for her second straight girls’ title. The defending champ has not played a lot this fall, but comes off an 11-shot victory last week. Her biggest tests should come from Savannah Tremain from Tongue River and a trio from Thermopolis: Lilly Johnson, Ruth Needham, and Madison Shaffer. The boys’ field is led by Easton Lewis from Tongue River, Trevan Benson from Kemmerer, Colton Gerler of Wright, Sundance’s Porter Watt and Owen Watt, and Trevin Shaffer from Thermopolis. That medalist honor is up for grabs.

It’s a shotgun start on both days. Friday will begin at 10 a.m., while Saturday’s final round starts at 9 a.m.

The Other Two Class Previews

Class 3A – Olive Glenn Golf Club in Cody, WY

Wheatland looks to have the inside track to both team titles, but there is one team in each field that could challenge the Bulldogs. The Cody girls and Lander boys are the two teams with enough depth to take down Wheatland. It will be hard to do, but the state championships can bring a different type of pressure.

Both defending champions return for a shot at a repeat. Maddie Brace from Douglas and Wheatland’s Tate Nichols are the two favorites. Both just won a conference title last weekend.  Brace will get tests from Addison Bettinger of Buffalo, Haylie Nelson and Jaylen Kaufman of Wheatland, Lander’s Keigann Watson, and Cody’s Jordan Shumard and Ashlyn Weiner. Tate Nichols has dominated all season, and there is no reason to believe he will let up. His teammates, Jacob Miller and brother Griffin Nichols, plus Lander’s Josh Lozier, Braxton Costello of Pinedale, and Cody Fisher from Powell, will be trying to chase him.

Both days feature tee times at 10 a.m.

Class 4A – Airport Golf Course in Cheyenne, WY

The team champions a year ago were the Evanston girls and Campbell County boys. Both look prime to repeat in 2025. In the girls’ field, Kelly Walsh, Thunder Basin, and Campbell County will try to chase down the Red Devils. After the Camels, it’s Laramie and Kelly Walsh in contention.

Class 4A is the only one that is guaranteed two new individual winners. The defending champions graduated, so the titles are up for grabs. Evanston’s Madison Brown is a heavy favorite, as she hasn’t lost all season. Riverton’s Tylynn McDonald, Khloe Romo from Kelly Walsh, and Thunder Basin’s Jenna Fox will be the biggest threats. The boys are led by Campbell County’s Jaxon Burr. He’s been playing very well down the stretch of the season. His best challenges will be from his teammate Cade Peterson, Laramie’s Carson Moniz, Brady Kalinowski of Kelly Walsh, Evanston’s Cade Brady, and a few others.

Both days of the state championships feature tee times starting at 9 a.m. in the Capital City.

As the state golf championships have proved in the past, there are always dark horses in the individual fields who could pull a surprise.

Weather Forecast

The weather forecast looks promising for all three locations. Cody and Douglas are calling for sunny conditions with temperatures 75-to-80. Cheyenne will also be sunny but is slightly cooler with temperatures around 75 for the two days. The weather forecast could change.
